Overview

Replit Agent is the AI layer inside Replit, a cloud development workspace that has existed since 2016. Describe what you want and the agent plans, builds and iterates: it creates the project, installs dependencies, writes the code and can prepare a release. Publishing is its own step - preview and production are separate, and you choose the domain and access settings and confirm the deploy rather than the agent doing it unattended. Code can be pushed to your own GitHub repository through built-in version control, which is not the same as migrating a database, secrets or hosting. What it costs is more than the plan price: Agent work and publishing draw on credits and can incur usage charges. Replit also documents using customer prompts, context and outputs to improve its models, with an opt-out on Pro and not on every account.

API access is uneven across the product. The documented MCP server and integrations let you drive Replit from ChatGPT, Claude, Slack or another MCP client on any plan, and that work is billed as Replit Agent usage against your Core or Pro monthly credits rather than as a separate API. The Admin API, by contrast, is available only to account admins on Enterprise accounts. No general standalone API beyond these is documented on the pages read, so whether a subscription covers such an API is not claimed here (Replit documentation, read 12 October 2026).

Useful when the goal is to get an idea running without setting up a machine, and when you accept that the price is a plan plus usage: credits cover Agent work and publishing, and going past them is metered. Two things to weigh before committing a real project: the workspace is in the cloud, and Replit documents using customer prompts, context and outputs to improve its models - Pro users can opt out for new content, and Enterprise content is excluded from training, but on a personal plan the exclusion is not automatic. Tests, structure and hosting cost remain your own review - the plan does not settle them.

There is a Starter path with limited Agent use and one published app, which is taken down after 30 days; Full build, Plan Mode and connectors need a paid plan. Paid Agent work draws on credits and what you spend varies with the work, so the plan price is a floor rather than a total.

Does publishing cost extra?

Publishing draws on the monthly credits included with the plan and can incur usage charges once they run out. Preview and production are separate: you choose the domain and access settings and confirm the deploy yourself.

Can I take the code with me?

Built-in version control supports Git and GitHub - import a repository, work in branches, push back. That covers the code; databases, secrets and hosting configuration are not carried along with the push.

Does Replit use my code to train models?

Replit documents using customer prompts, instructions, context and outputs to improve its models. Pro accounts have an opt-out that applies to new content, and Enterprise customers are not used for training. It is not a blanket no-training statement for every account.

How does this relate to GitHub Copilot?

They are separate products with separate entries and plan terms on this site, and we did not re-check GitHub Copilot's current capabilities for this entry. The practical difference is where the work runs and who bills for it: Replit Agent operates in Replit's cloud workspace, so its plan price and usage charges are Replit's, while Copilot is sold and configured together with the tools you already work in.
